The Palmer roll shows '5019 Pte. W. Badman of 4th Somerset L.I." as killed accidentally on the indicated date.
Best regards

Badman's entry in the various casualty rolls illustrates a problem.

The publish SAFF roll shows he was accidentally killed on the railway. This is clearly stated on his service papers "killed by train".

Ancestry & Palmer seem to drop the critical information as to how he met his death. This is not uncommon on Ancestry, I don't have Palmer so I can't say how accurate his transcription was.

My copy of SAFF (Oaklands) simply says "Killed, Thomas River, 4th May, accidentally". No reference to cause of death.
Palmer says "Killed, Thomas River, 4/5/01, accly, 4 SomLI".

You're right. I must ensure my records are referenced when I pick up this extra info.

Still don't get why folk still use the out of date casualty rolls.
