TOPIC:

This roll of honour was originally in Haslingden, East Lancashire, where the 2nd Volunteer Battalion was based, but is now at the Rossendale Museum, Rawtenstall. Very difficult to photograph as it's in a glass cabinet, with another glass cabinet facing it, so I had to photograph it from different angles to try to avoid my reflection being in the shot.

This tablet is presented to the Officers Non-Commissioned Officers and Men of the L Company 2nd Volunteer Battalion The East Lancashire Regiment by John Henry Maden Esq. J.P. to commemorate the noble response to their Country's call to defend the flag in South Africa.

Captain Parker, who died at Heilbron on Saturday, as recorded in our issue on Tuesday, was a son of Mr. Thomas Parker, cotton manufacturer, Haslingden.
