THE LATE LIEUTENANT YOUNG.
Deep regret was occasioned in Dumfries on Saturday afternoon, when the second telegram was received from Lord Roberts, announcing that Lieutenant E. M. Young, of the first battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderers, had died of wounds received in the battle of Karree. Mr Young was proprietor of the estate of Lincluden, in which he succeeded his father, the late Major Thomas Young, in August, 1897, and was in his thirtieth year. Joining the Borderers in January, 1891, he was promoted Lieutenant in 1893, and had his life been spared he would have received his captaincy in a few weeks. This was the first campaign in which he had been engaged. The deceased officer was the only son of the family, and was unmarried.
