The favoured human targets now are foreigners (Somalis, Ethiopians, Pakistanis etc), who own spaza (convenience) shops in townships. Rather than representing Colonialism, as was the case in Uitenhage, the spaza shop owners are guilty of providing a service that should be done by indigenous inhabitants.

There may yet be arrests, because the alleged perpetrators are members of the EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters), who have upset the ruling ANC. Arrests are less likely in the case of the crimes (including murder) against the foreign shop owners, who are now asking for other countries to rescue them, since they are so unloved in SA.
