E. F. Mackie, Lieut.
Actg. Adjt.

R.O. 402 – 19-04-1900

On to-day's parade as on previous occasions no attention was paid to signals. Only two or three Officers gave signals as well as words of command.

The files in rear of the troops in line omitted to insist upon the centre guides covering the troop leaders but made the men touch in to the center of the squadron.

Men were allowed to shuffle about when standing at attention when it is well known to all that corrections should only be made when men are ordered to dress or when on the move. The O.C. regrets that he should again call to the attention of the Officers and N.C.O.'s to these important details. More attention must be paid to these points in the future.

Good Morning David.....

Thank you for your kind comments.....

I know that these early orders are quite how shall I say "Dry"....

But

Later on when they start into the firld and work with S.A.L.H., T.M.I., "A" Battery R.H.A., 18th B.F. Hospital, The Elswick Battery, Sommerset Light Infantry, Royal Scots Fusiliers and Imperial Light Horse to name a few it does become a little more interesting.....

One thing though is that if you have a medal to a Strathcona you can see where he is mentioned and see if he is a Bad or a Good boy.... LOL....

There is one thing that is not mentioned here but the "Imperial Command" as they were called wanted to take away the horses from "Strathcona's Horse" because they had lost so many by the time they arrived in Cape Town and turn them into Infantry..... I can tell you that there was one H*ll of a stink when that was attempted......
