1900 - Mafeking siege day 197 (90%). French and Ian Hamilton at Thaba 'Nchu.

1900 - Mafeking - A diary of the siege by Major F D Baillie

More runners, but thanks to the usual breakdown of the Beira-Salisbury line, dates and news are so mixed, and the contending forces seem so extraordinarily and intricately involved with each other, that Ave have given up trying to understand how things really are going. It doesn't very much matter, as the result is a foregone conclusion, and at the worst can only be shortly delayed. One thing is amusing, and that is to see the various reasons different countries give for not offering to mediate.

1900 - Wepener

From the diary of 2nd Lieutenant Nigel K Charteris, Royal Scots, at Wepener

27th April

Spent the day looking for lost horses. We have lost 40 horses during the siege. We have got 40 Basuto ponies in place of the ones we have lost. Had tea with the Xth Mounted Infantry who are camped just outside our position on the Dewetsdorp Road.
