Title: St Aidan's College Cadet Corps, Grahamstown

The CinC Cape Colony, in a letter dated 5 Dec 1902 to the WO states:

"Although it is very desirable to support in every way the Cadet Corps of this colony and to encourage their esprit de corps, and to recognise the patriotic spirit that led them to join the Defence Force of Grahamstown, I regret that I cannot recommend the award of the decoration as the enemy never attacked Grahamstown.

"I expressed the above view to the General Officer Commanding Transvaal and Orange River Colonies in reference to the Kingswood College Cadet Corps, Grahamstown, and I consider that no cadet corps should become entitles to the decoration unless it has been actively engaged with the enemy or served in a British column or in a colonial column operating with our British columns under the direction of a British General.
