Do you watch CSI a lot, Brett?

Brett Hendey wrote: This post is off-topic and comes from the fantasy world I sometimes inhabit, so David B may soon delete it.

When I was immersed in investigating the Natal Native Scouts, it occurred to me that, if we could extract DNA from relics they left behind, we might also be able to identify some of their living descendants, thereby exciting an interest in the Boer War amongst people who were previously indifferent to it. Of course, there are many obvious flaws in this fantasy, not least finding appropriate relics. As I read David G's post, I thought of CSI and skin cells on envelopes. Perhaps one day in future ......

Brett,

I enjoy reading your posts, whatever the topic. Unless you start to advertise the latest trainers or other items essential to daily life, I can't see any of your posts needing to be moderated.

Best wishes

Thank you, David. When logged on here, I try to keep my wandering mind focussed on the Boer War.

Not specifically 'CSI', Frank, since I am not a great admirer of American TV programmes. One of my thwarted childhood ambitions was to be a policeman and policing remains one of my main interests. Forensic science links my one-time profession with policing, so that is where the afore-mentioned fantasy had its origins.

Regards
Brett
