Benjamin Brooke & Co Ltd, a firm owned by Sidney and Henry Gross, had produced the soap in Philadelphia. The soap's highly abrasive agent was probably pumice.
Lever Brothers bought the company in January 1899 and transferred the production of Monkey Brand soap to Port Sunlight near Liverpool. The name ‘Benjamin Brooke’ (hence Brooke's Monkey Brand) was retained to promote the Monkey Brand soap on both sides of the Atlantic.

Lord Roberts was starting to convince himself that without their president or stabling government, the Boer defence would simply melt away. Alas, he and the cigarette manufacturer Ogden's Guinea Gold had not reckoned on the qualities of Marthinus Steyn and Schalk Willem Burger.

Dave thank you for that post. Please find below the original artwork for that advertisement. Please note the subtle differences. I include in this post another original drawing made for Ogden's. At the back it states it was used in a publication on June 9, 1900. Both drawings come from the dispersal of Kenneth Griffith's collection in 2007.

B ATH O LIVER B ISCUITS

SUPPLIED TO LORD ROBERTS.

THE ORIGINAL BATH OLIVERS / Manufactured SOLELY by / “JAMES” FORTT. / 13 GREEN ST., BATH.

ON WHAT DOES BOBS FIGHT?

A DISTINGUISHED lady novelist recently committed herself to the opinion that we all write on something; tea, tobacco, alcohol, or what not. At present, however, the public is interested in what we fight on. I was informed the other day, for example, that “Bobs” fights on “Bath Olivers”. Shortly before leaving for the Cape he paid a visit to his sister, Mrs Sherston, of Bath, and took away with him to the front a bountiful supply of Bath Olivers. He sent home for a further supply, which Lady Roberts took with her when she went to join him.

The Kannenbeer Supply Ltd started out life in 1900 and went into liquidation (pun intended) in 1907.
