And another …..

The positions and widths of the driving bands indicate that this is based on a VSM 1-pdr shell, though the dimensions of the tin (231 x 95 mm) mean that the word “facsimile” is somewhat misleading.

"FACSIMILE / OF SHELL / MEMENTO OF / THE TRANSVAAL / WAR / 1899-1900".
On base: "REGISTERED DESIGN / Packed by / THE / BRITISH & BENINGTON'S / TEA TRADING ASSO’N / LIMITED / 118 Southwark St / LONDON / JOHN WILSON, TIN PRINTER, SHIPLEY, SOLE MAKER".

231 mm high; 95 mm diameter

This is a commonly-seen one:
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Stirton & Dyer (London, Ontario, Canada), cigar-makers, branded one of their products "Queen's Chocolate" cigars. Rather an odd name to use unless their tobacco had either the taste or aroma of chocolate...

Labelled: "STIRTON & DYER, / HIGH GRADE CIGAR MANUFACTURERS, / LONDON, CAN. / Queen's Chocolate".
Tax stamp: "CANADA. / FIFTY CIGARS" "CANCEL HERE BY / STAMP OR STENCIL" "NUMBER / 361945 / SERIES OF 1897".
Ink stamp to base: "COLORADO"

Further printed text to base: "50 Cigars / Factory No. 21 I.R.D. 32"
"NOTICE. The manufacturer of the Cigars herein contained has complied with all the requirements of the law. The following caution is to be strictly observed under the penalties provided by the States of Canada. 1st. The package is to be opened in such a manner as to break the stamp. 2nd. The package is not to be used again when the present contents are removed. 3rd. The contents are not to be removed except for immediate sale, and 4th. When the package is empty the stamp and package must both be destroyed".
Clearly, the final caution was not adhered to.

Base with date in pencil: "3/1901"

A similar box sold on Bidorbuy on 15 Nov 2018, for R 2,575 ZAR (£125 GBP).

I agree with David, I am amazed by the variety of the artefacts in this thread. They are all incredibly scarce, and it gives us that essential knowledge we need to recognise what they are if they turn up on offer anywhere!

Cheers Steve
