So the DEOVR recruited locally? I wonder if any other Imperial units did?

I am not sure if this is a fair comparison but 5s in 1900 equates today to £25, taking into account inflation. Not a great deal for the risks they ran.

Hello Ian,
Wonderful images thank you for posting them, I like the Cape Colony Cyclist Corps in particular, with the exception of this unit and the DEOVR, all the others are Class C units of the SAMIF.
The Cape Colony Cyclist Corps was a Class D1 SAMIF unit and came directly under the General Officer Commanding the Cape Colony, it was raised for war service in the Cape only.
Thanks again for posting these images, really superb, they bring the SAMIF alive in my eyes.
Kind regards Frank

DEOVR was not an Imperial unit, it was, however, the oldest of the Cape infantry and had been using "The Argus" to recriut for many years.

Hi Frank

You're welcome, glad you enjoyed them. Was a bit of a problem photographing them as the newspaper is falling apart. I guess the reason my family kept a copy is because it contains a Queen Victoria tribute since she died a day earlier (22 January 1901).

Regards
Ian
