Good Morning Everyone......

Here is a find that I thought that you may like to see.....

Engraved: Sister E. M. Edwards, A.N.S.R. on one side and Boer War March-August 1900 on the other.....

Cork Screw (For the wine on the nights that the nurses partied), a Hoof Pick, Short Blade and a long blade which I am afraid is broken.....

Hello Mike
A very nice piece of history.
Would that be something that was given to the nurse or would she have had it engraved herself?

Paul :)

Hello Paul....

I would think that it was something that was given to her on her return as it has her dates of service on it.....

You had me very confused with the title of your post v the name on the object :-)

I can tell you a bit about Edith Maude EDWARDS

Nursing Sister Miss Edith Maude EDWARDS was born in Plymouth, Devon about 1865. She was brought up by her mother who was a Housekeeper. Edith trained at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. She joined Princess Christian's Army Nursing Service (Reserve) on February 9 1900.

She appears on:
WO 100/229 QSA Medal Roll p162 created at No9 General Hospital, Bloemfontein; October, 1901
WO 100/229 QSA Medal Roll p257 created at AMD; August 14, 1901
War Office (1900) Nominal Roll of Princess Christian's Army Nursing Service (Reserve) as at 30th September 1900
Nursing Record & Hospital World, March 3, 1900, p173

cheers
