Thanks Mike

I got those a year ago along with those of his son. The Keep Museum at Dorchester have also been very helpful.

Hello,

Curious set of papers on FmP - no mention of serving in the ABW. But he is on the medal rolls and the last clasp he received was South Africa 1901. The roll also states sent home "time expired".

As he did not earn the South Africa 1902 clasp he was sent home in 1901.

No paternity issues - (at least on account of him being in SA)!

Hi Meurig

Thanks for reply, what does ABW stand for?
Where did you find the medal rolls - it's rather strange I have not picked up on those as there is only one person with the name Betraun.
It is a very small family and I know every one of the people with that name including those currently in the USA as I have done a one-name study on them.

Hello David

Sorry - ABW = Anglo-Boer War.

Copies of the original medal rolls are on Ancestry.co.uk.

My site lists medal entitlements for tens of thousands of soldiers.

Thanks Meurig

I did check Ancestry again before I posted reply and I can't find any mention of Thomas Betraun on the medal rolls. How do I view the information you have regarding the South Africa 1902 clasp and being sent home in 1901?

Sorry to seem a bit thick on this matter but the last record I can see on his papers is Natal 1900 as I said previously.

David

Hello,

You need to search by service number and unit as he appears on the medal rolls as "Bertram" and "Betram".

The information about the 1901 and 1902 clasps is derived from the medal rolls and a knowledge about how the medals were issued: see here .
