David, perhaps it is time to split “Recent Topics” into two icons, one for medals and one for other topics. Contributors to this site in both groups often have spent days to research, write up and illustrate a post. Non--medal posts on page two or beyond that are stuck in between medal posts often get overlooked, and vice versa. So, i.m.o. splitting the Recent Topics into two would benefit both the medal enthusiasts and those who focus on other topics. Give it some thought. Everhard

I agree - non medal topics get washed away quite quickly by medals
I imagine most visitors to the site were medalists in the past but recently the balance of visitors seems more equal…
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Yes, that is a good idea.

I have started the process by renaming the option on the top menu to 'Recent non-medal topics'. This picks up the categories of research, memorials, ephemera, events etc but no medals.

If that works well, I will create a new menu item for 'Recent medal topics'.

Best wishes

David,

Would there be any chance of adding a new tab next to “recent topics” for non-medal posts? I don’t know about others, but I always navigate using these tabs. If this could include all the topics included in the “Main Forum” link on the home page that would be brilliant.

For some reason the new “recent non-medals topics” doesn’t appear to be capturing all non-medal threads.

Neville,

Does the new option on the top menu work for you?

It offers the very marginal saving of one mouse click.

Not all non-medal categories are currently included but it gives a feel for how the category separation could operate.

Best wishes

I, personally, would prefer a new tab, as that is the most visible way of navigating. I think occasional visitors would be more likely to notice a tab next to “recent topics” than the link at the top of the page.

However, if this is too difficult to implement, I’m sure I would soon get used to working from your new option.

Thank you for addressing this issue. It is greatly appreciated.

Neville
