I'm not sure who knew him but a well-known member of the SA medal collecting world has passed away - Munroe Swirsky - known as Munroe on this forum - has, I have been reliably informed, passed away earlier today.

That is very sad new, Rory. Munro always amazed us with items from his collection.

I couple of years ago, we were going to collaborate on a project to make all the ABO records freely accessible on this site bit, for a number of reasons, that did not go ahead.

Sad news, indeed. Munroe was the creator and webmaster of the Military Medals of South Africa blog ( www.mmofsa.org.za ), which contains much valuable information (although nothing ABW-related).

Very sad news indeed. I spoke to him less than two weeks ago, arranging a video interview to capture his story. He mentioned a minor back surgery he was having in the coming week. Great loss to the Medal Collecting community...
May God comfort his family with peace.

Munroe was both an extraordinary person and collector. His passion for his Family, work and history was inspiring. I am proud to have called him "friend" and will miss our regular chats
