Although news of the latest disaster to befall a South African museum has already spread far and wide, I thought it best to add it to this forum as well. The Talana Museum in Dundee has lost its collection of medals in a well organised and apparently targeted theft. Drills and angle-grinders were used to break through three steel doors to access the Armoury, where safes are housed. Explosives were still attached to some safes, but not detonated. It seems only the medal collection, which included many historically important items, was stolen.

I find this really quite hard to understand just how it could happen in the first place, but, I suppose that the sad reality, is, quite simply, that there are many audacious people who will do anything for a sum of money.

That is dreadful news Brett. Very upsetting.

When the list of the stolen property is issued, we can collectively look out for it and see if we can't help in returning at least some of it.

Terrible - hopefully the list of items stolen is circulated soon.

One does tend to wonder if these particular medals were stolen to order.
