I would like to find out about Private T. Reed, regt.no.4489, of the 1st Royal Dragoons.

I believe that he was likely my ancestor, Private Thomas Reed, who had previously served with the 12th Lancers and 3rd Dragoon Guards (1886-98),and who re-joined the 3rd DG in April 1900. It seems likely that he was transferred to the 1st RD, but I do not know this for sure and would like to check against any surviving regimental records.

I cannot find any such records in searching the catalogue of the National Archives at Kew. Also, Thomas' service record does not shed any light on this, except to indicate that he re-joined in April 1900.

Any help shall be greatly appreciated.

Reed,

There is an entry for him on the supplementary roll of the 1st Dragoons in WO100/114 p91 listing the Cape Colony clasp and that the KSA was issued with two clasps. There is a note saying the QSA had been applied for separately (as is usual).

While there at 52 T Reeds listed on Ancestry, I cannot see another entry for him.

His service papers may be in WO97 at the National Archives. They won't be listed in the Catalogue search though. You can do a free search on Find My Past or ask a professional researcher to have a look for you.

Good luck
David
