Hello,

Has anyone come across a list of these soldiers?

I have checked The Times without success.

Thanks & regards

Meurig,

I have only seen partial lists. There are lists of officers released and in the Irish Times are lists of men of the Irish regiments.

Have you had a look at the books of telegrams in TNA? I have seen list of prisoners in here but probably haven't looked as far forward as June 1900.

Hello David

I've not been to TNA for over a year! I am surprised The Times didn't carry any lists - but searching digital sources is never easy.

Good Morning Meurig.....

It is to bad that you are not looking for the Times period April, May and June of 1901.....

About 2 years ago I was in an antique shop that was going out of business and they were using newspaper to wrap things that were sold.....

They were wrapping my purchase and I noticed the paper's name and date.....

They were using the Times for April, May and June of 1901.....

I asked if I could buy the wrapping paper and got the lot for $5.00.....

Hello Mike

You mine a rich seam in Canada!

I have found the names of the last of these prisoners to be released in The Times for Sept 4 1900. They were freed by French when he captured Barberton on Sept 13, 1900.

In the main these were officers captured at Lindley including Spragge and some assorted colonials from other actions. As well as a handful of Other Ranks whom the Boers thought to be "in the position of officers" as they could buy extra food!

Careful everyone.

The majority of prisoners were released in July 1900 on the occupation of Pretoria. The roll of officers can be found in the back of the Earl of Rosslyn's 'The Gram'.

The 13th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry and the Reddersburg bridge prisoners never got to Pretoria and were taken to Nooitgedact.

These were released in September. They were officially missing from May to September as evidenced in the House of Commons debates.

A huge embarrassment to the Government, especially as concerned the well-heeled 47th Company and the Dublin and Belfast companies.
