I eventually gave up trying to draw up a coherent list of the men who served in the Natal Native Scouts. One of the complications is the indiscriminate use of both "Christian' names and tribal names. As in the case with your Simon there is the added complication of no tribal surname, which makes identification of the individual impossible.

Perhaps the 'New' South Africa will produce a researcher with the right connections to take this matter further, but there will never be a final definitive roll such as those for other regiments.
