Good afternoon Everyone......

Just obtained a Victorian Long Service and Good Conduct named to the following:

6788 S.A.I. Gnr. A. Masterson Cst. Bde. R.A.

I do not have anything that will tell me what "S.A.I." stands for and "Cst. Bde. R.A." I deduce to mean Construction Brigade, Royal Artillery...... Can anyone help with this as it is not really my field....

It was with a QSA to Sgt. W.A. Masterson, Potchefstroom T.G. .......

This has to be a Father and Son......

Thanks in advance.....

Hi Mike,

I believe it stands for: Sergeant Assistant Instructor In Gunnery.

As well as Coast Brigade Royal Artillery.

Regards,
Shaun

Hi Mike,

I hope I’m not overstepping but I have attached what I believe is their family tree and yes it is a father and son pair.

Please note that William John was also known as William Alexander; hence the difference in the initials on the QSA medal.

Regards,
Shaun

Mike - on Ancestry if you do a Public Member Tree search for William John Masterton born 1878 in Athelstaneford you will find him on 30 Public Member Trees. The first listed carries a photo of him in later life and claims he was married twice. His first marriage was in 1899 but his wife and infant daughter both died in 1902.
