Good afternoon Everyone......

Just obtained a Victorian Long Service and Good Conduct named to the following:

6788 S.A.I. Gnr. A. Masterson Cst. Bde. R.A.

I do not have anything that will tell me what "S.A.I." stands for and "Cst. Bde. R.A." I deduce to mean Construction Brigade, Royal Artillery...... Can anyone help with this as it is not really my field....

It was with a QSA to Sgt. W.A. Masterson, Potchefstroom T.G. .......

This has to be a Father and Son......

Thanks in advance.....

Hi Mike,

I believe it stands for: Sergeant Assistant Instructor In Gunnery.

As well as Coast Brigade Royal Artillery.

Regards,
Shaun

Hi Mike,

I hope I’m not overstepping but I have attached what I believe is their family tree and yes it is a father and son pair.

Please note that William John was also known as William Alexander; hence the difference in the initials on the QSA medal.

Regards,
Shaun

Mike - on Ancestry if you do a Public Member Tree search for William John Masterton born 1878 in Athelstaneford you will find him on 30 Public Member Trees. The first listed carries a photo of him in later life and claims he was married twice. His first marriage was in 1899 but his wife and infant daughter both died in 1902.

Regards, David.

Mike

Grave of the father to be found in a cemetery in Port Elizabeth:

The inscription appears to refer to his time as the "Tyler" of a Masonic Lodge.

Photo of the son and presumably his (second) wife:

The Angus Murray Masterton who shared the photo also created the most comprehensive family tree which shows he is the 2Xgreat-grandson of Alexander Mack and the great-grandson of William John. If you joined Ancestry you would be able to message him. I suspect he also created the info supplied previously by Shaun.
