I agree with Neville - and the white shirts are quite wrong for soldiers of any rank, as are the collars open at the throat. Though having been in Modder River more than once in December I can vividly recall it as being as hot as Hades.
Could these be civil surgeons attached to a regiment which had a flaming grenade insignia, and the 4 in front be orderlies?
