Hi there, I know this is a long shot, but I wondered if anyone could suggest a way I could identify the men in this photograph? Specifically, the man seated on the ground, in the middle. As I say, it's a long shot. Thanks in advance

Where collar badges can be seen, they look like flaming grenades. These are worn by Royal Engineers or Artillery, I am not sure about Grenadier Guards and some Fusiliers as well.
Would any of that fit with what you know?
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

The bearded chap seated far right looks ancient! Wonder what his backstory could be! Would probably omit him from imperial regiments, but as a medical man has found a way to serve?

Thanks for your replies. I don't know anything about this pic at all and was hoping to track down their names. It does feel like a needle in a haystack chance though.

I agree, that man on the right doesn't look like a spring chicken!

Sperrett,

The man standing in the centre and looking to the right, it is possible to enlarge the badge on his hat please?

One thing that strikes me as unusual for a Boer War group photograph is the fact that none of the men are wearing field kit. Could this indicate that they were engaged in some form of organisational role? Also, the officers' tunics with cloth belts are unusual for this period, and do not conform to the standard 1897 pattern "khaki frock coat".
