Friends,
I recently obtained a group to Charles Waller RHA who served with U Battery for most of his time in the ranks (later commissioned and served as Captain RHA during WW1).

I note that he was captured on 2 occasions the first being at Sanna's Post 31st March 1900 and then again at Vlaksfontein on 19th September 1901.

I am wondering how rare a double POW would be in terms of Boer War Service, does anyone have in data on this subject.

I don’t have any specific data, but I’ve collected Boer War PoW medals for several years and out of the 74 recipients’ medals, I have only one group consisting of QSA with CC, OFS, Tr and SA01 and a Delhi Durban 2911 to 5675 Serjt C Twigden, Lanc Fus. He was attached to the 28th MI and captured at Klip River (12/02/1902) and again at Boschbult (31/03/1902). In India, he served with the Calcutta Volunteer Rifles.

IMHO, double PoW medals are scarce to rare. Congrats on acquiring a superb group.

A real beauty this one Simon - well done on it and the others you required recently. You must now rank as one of the foremost Boer War period collectors.

Thank you for your kind words Rory, but as I my focus is very specific, there are many out there that are more deserving praise for what they have achieved with their collections.

Kind Regards

Simon
