There are a couple of books that you may like to look at.....

A YEOMAN'S LETTERS by Corp. P.T. Ross, Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent and Co., 1901.

ABSENT-MINDED BEGGERE, YEOMANRY AND VOLUNTEERS IN THE BOER WAR, by Will Bennett, Leo Cooper Ltd., 1st Edition, 1999

Lt. Col. R L Birkin’s “History of the 3rd Regiment Imperial Yeomanry “ is essential for knowing what the YHs did in the war. There is also a good series of articles in the Yorkshire Hussars regimental magazine published between the wars. Birkin’s book also has nominal rolls.

Finding a copy of this book seems like it will prove to be a bit of a quest.

I have recently acquired the QSA/KSA pair of medals to 566 Sergeant / QMS Sampson Wood, 9th Coy, IY.
He was it seems amongst the first contingent of Imperial Yeomanry troops to arrive in South Africa in January 1900 and one of the last to
leave in 1902.

His obituary includes this statement : He had vivid recollections of a five day forced march to the relief of Mafeking at the end of which the column found that Mafeking had been relieved the previous day.

It would be interesting to learn if that was likely or just perhaps an old soldier's tale.
