Hi...I am researching Herbert Lear Meyer who joined the TMI during the Boer War. Can anyone tell me if the attestation or enrollment papers exist online anywhere? I checked the NA website (wo126) and they havn't been digitised by them ...so wondering if I can only get them via a visit to Kew or whether there is any online source. Any help appreciated. Also, would the attestation papers give anything more than is available on this website?

Mr. Mouse
Before the book "Thorneycroft's "Unbuttoned'" was published some time ago, I had to get a researcher to look enlistment papers up at the NA. Often, not a lot of info was found - you have to take your luck. Now, copies of the TMI book are available. "7448 Pte. Herbert Lear Meyer, D coy, TMI" from Essex was wounded in action on Spion Kop and earned the clasps TH,RL,LN,TV,OFS between 10/99 and 11/00.
I strongly recommend that you obtain a copy of "Unbuttoned" to get an excellent overview of this crack unit and its activities.

IL.

Hi Linneyl....thanks a lot for that. I do have a copy on order so should get that book within the next few days. Thanks for the info on Meyer...that's really really useful. I've been after a TMI Spion Kop WIA for 20 years to complete a "project".....so that's a great result!

When you actually got a copy of the attestation papers for any TMI guy did they contain anything more useful than is in the book?
