I just came across this while looking for something else (serendipity is a wonderful research tool!), and thought I'd share the link. It's the war diary of Lt Douglas Howard Gill RHA, in the University of SA's special collection : uir.unisa.ac.za/handle/10500/10573 .

According to the description, it's 245 pages long, and a quick glance shows that it includes photos, and lots of sketches. Gill was in the siege of Ladysmith.
Regards
Arthur

Thank you Arthur - I shall enjoy wading through his account of, especially the RFA at Elandslaagte.
