Hello can any one help with this one
I have found several newspaper letter written home to the wife of a soldier of the Shropshire Regt. from South Africa
The thing is I cannot trace this soldier at all, nothing in the medal roll, service papers
Or in the casualties list
one of his letters writes about a serous gun shot wound to the chest, and his stay at hospital
any help to identify this soldier would be much appreciated
PHILIP

I checked birth registrations in the Chester registration district (which included Tarvin) between 1860 and 1880, and there was no record of a single Parmiter, Parmeter, Parminter or Parmenter. Couldn't find a Samuel with any of those four surnames being born in the county of Cheshire in that time period, but I don't believe that these records are comprehensive. I've recently read an obituary for an ABW veteran who died in England in 1940, yet his death isn't recorded by the General Register Officer.

I did find the death of a Robert Parmiter, in 1903, aged 52, in the Chester district, but no more Parmiter deaths in the Chester district through to 1957. There was a Mr J. Parmiter attending a funeral in Tarvin in 1904, and a Mr J. S. Parmiter living in Tarvin in October 1902 - could he be Samuel?

Hello Berenice
Many kind thanks for your reply to my want for information, this is at the moment a strange one indeed
All my avenues of research have failed to find out anything on Parminter
Although there are many letters written home by him from South Africa, he may however been using an alias, if so, why, or just he has been missing from the roll
I will see what Tarvin history group might have
I will keep you up to date with any progress
All the very best
Philip
