Through the post this week I received a copy of this 96 page book which has been written by J G Gale and M A Noronha. The book contains a wealth of research on the men of Chipping Barnet who served in the Boer War in addition to providing a broad range of contextual information.

Starting with a chronology of the Boer War supported by numerous colour illustrations, the book gives information on the local memorials, biographies of men from Chipping Barnet and has chapters on three VC recipients connected to the area. Other appendices widen the scope to look at notable people connected with the War, the medals awarded, role of the RN, weapons as well as transport, communications and hospitals.

The book is available for £10 from the Barnet Museum . It is well worth its asking price.
