Hi All,
If anyone has access to a copy of "The Record of the Mounted Infantry of the City Imperial Volunteers" and would be able to do a quick check on the nominal roll for me that would be much appreciated. Unfortunately the only copy I can find online is missing several pages at the crucial point!

I am looking for 1152 Private G G Anderson. From his QSA clasps (Paardeburg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Cape Colony) I am guessing that he was in No. 1 Company of the CIVMI, it would be great to confirm that if possible. I'm researching his story for our local World War One 100th anniversary commemorations (he died in France in 1915).
Many Thanks,

James

A trip to the London Metropolitan Archives today and success! My man appears in "Record of No.1. Mounted Infantry Company City Imperial Volunteers" (archives reference: CLA/051/01/019), which contains the service records of the company. 2 pages per man, information includes:

Name
Date of Birth
Date Freedom of City of London granted
A brief narrative summary (more detailed for officers) of service in the CIV
Previous service in other military units
Subsequent service in other military units (including WW1 for some but incomplete; again, better detail for officers)
Medals and Decorations
Remarks
Other information (WW1 medals awarded, mentions in despatches, etc)

The archives also hold a photo album belonging to L/Cpl C E Roos (reference CLA/051/01/028) of No.1. Company which is well-annotated with names and features mostly other NCOs and the officers.

There is a nominal roll for both of the CIV's mounted infantry companies in "Record of the Mounted Infantry of the City Imperial Volunteers" by Guy H. Guillum Scott and Geoffrey L. McDonell available online but, as mentioned in the previous post, the scanned copy is missing some of No.1. Company so I have transcribed the names from the index for the service records of No.1 Company, below, in case it is of use to anyone else. The list is alphabetical by first letter of surname only and apologies for any transcription errors. I'll maybe return to photograph the records at some point.
