Hi there
I have an interesting item that I was given to me by my grandmother, and she got it from her grandmother, who raised her. Apparently, she owned a guest house in Johannesburg in the early 1900s, and had quite a bit of influence.
The story goes as follows. After the signing of the Treaty of Vereeniging on the 31st May 1902, The Transvaal Advertiser printed the headlines of the 1st June 1902 on 9 small silk clothes. One of these was given to my great great grandmother.
I am unable to find any references to this piece, nor can I find anybody who knows anything about it.
I have no reason to doubt my grandmother's story.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

You have what may now be a unique item of Boer War memorabilia, since it could well be the only survivor of the nine originally made. It is also in very good condition. Other memorabilia collectors are likely to be envious!
