I wanted to ask if anyone has any histories of the Boer Commandos, however short?

I plan to create a page for each Commando and to list the men who received the ABO, along with any other biographical information that is available. The unit history would act in the same way as does Sterling's for the Imperial and Colonial units.

I am planning to create a forum page for each ABO recipient so that, over time, the information can continue to grow and expand on these men. It would be great if many of the Boer storied can be brought to light.

I thought I would try this approach in preference to a printed book which would immediately be out of date.

Hi David

Good idea

Full details of the Cape-based Commandos is still lacking. British Intelligence published a list of who were members of the various commandos in a booklet / list format in Oct/Nov 1901. A copy was for sale on the net and fetched a very high price.

Taffy and David Shearing did much work on Scheepers, Lotter, Malan and Smuts (in the Cape Colony) with names
Details to follow.

peter
