"The Mayor said each member of the second section of the Active Service Volunteers would be presented with a gold medal, of the same pattern as those which were given to the first section, as soon as they were received from the makers".
"A handsome shield-shaped gold medal, enclosed in neat morocco velvet-lined case. It is beautifully designed - on the obverse bearing the Borough Arms [with crossed rifles], and the words 'Borough of Tewkesbury', and on the reverse a suitable inscription. With the name, of course, altered to that of the respective recipients, all the medals are to pattern. It is suspended on a hook in the morocco case, and intended for use on scarf or chain or otherwise as desired".
WAR MEMENTOES FOR VOLUNTEERS.
VOLUNTEERS’ DINNER. – This annual event took place at the Hop Pole Royal Hotel, on Friday evening, and was attended by many friends of the company as well as nearly a full muster of men. Captain Banaster, who had been for some time on a visit to the Isle of Man, returned on Thursday and took the chair. He was supported by Lieut.-Colonel Griffiths (Cheltenham), the Mayor (Mr T.W. Moore), Mr Alfred Baker, Private E.F. GLYNN, of the C.I.V. (nephew of Archdeacon Robeson, formerly Vicar of Tewkesbury), Mr Clement Moore, Mr Charles Harris, Mr Harold Godfrey, Mr George Rice, Mr H. Bishop, Mr Pike, Mr Baillie, Mr W. Darbyshire, Mr H. Charles, Mr Perks, Mr H.W. Brown, Mr F.W. Moore, and other gentlemen. The Chairman gave the loyal toasts, which were enthusiastically honoured. After this came the presentation of special gold medals by the Mayor, on behalf of the Corporation and a large number of subscribers, to the active service men of the Tewkesbury Company, and including Private GLYNN, of the C.I.V., and Corporal C. DYSON (of Tredington), of the Imperial Yeomanry. The Tewkesbury Volunteers who received the medals were Corporal SIMMS, Lance-Corporal POPE, and Private BRADWELL, COOK, N.J. MANN, DEAN, HALLING, and JACKSON. Lieutenant=Colonel Griffiths proposed “Success to the Tewkesbury Companies”, which was received with great applause, and suitably acknowledged by the commanding officer, Captain Banaster. Other toasts followed, and then came the distribution of prizes won at the annual firing competitions, and which took place in September, and for volley firing and drill attendance.
TEWKESBURY.
VOLUNTEER DINNER AND PRESENTATION. – The annual dinner of the Tewkesbury (D) Company 2nd V.B. Gloucestershire Regiment, has been held at the Hop Pole Royal Hotel, under the presidency of the Commanding Officer (Captain Banaster). A company numbering over a hundred including the Mayor (Mr T.W. Moore), Lieut.-Col. Griffith (commanding the battalion), and Aldermen Baker (Hon. Sec.) and Harris. In the course of the evening 22 gold medals bearing the Borough Arms, and inscribed with the name of the recipient, were presented to each member of the Volunteer Service Section recently returned from South Africa, Corporal DYSON, of the Imperial Yeomanry, and Private GLYNN, of the C.I.V.’s. The last-named is a nephew of the Archdeacon of Bristol, and has for many years resided in the town.

After the loyal toast, the Mayor presented to each of the Service Company present and Corpl. DYSON and Pte. GLYNN the gold medal publicly subscribed for. The medal is in the form of a handsome watch-chain pendant of shield form. It is of 22 carat gold, and bears on the one side the Borough arms with crossed rifles, and on the other the name of the recipient, &c.

COMPLIMENTARY DINNER TO VOLUNTEERS.
On Thursday evening a dinner in honour of the active service men of the second contingent, who left Tewkesbury las year and returned on Wednesday, took place at the Assembly Rooms, the Mayor (Mr T.W. Moore) presiding over a representative company, including most of the members of the Town Council, the men of the first active service contingent, local Volunteers, etc. …….
……. The toast of the evening, that of “The Returned Active Service Men of the Second Tewkesbury Contingent”, was proposed in most complimentary terms by Mr Ald. A. Baker, who intimated that during the absence of the men assurance policies of £100 each had been taken out in their names by the local relief committee, and in the case of Col.-Sergt. GARBUTT, for £250, by the county committee. The six policies taken out locally had just been renewed, and he asked the Mayor to now present them to the Volunteers in whose names they were made out (applause). He also expressed the sincere delight of the town in seeing them all back again and in good health, notwithstanding their trying duties. – The Mayor, amidst applause, presented the policies, and stated that immediately they could be received from the makers, gold medals, similar to those presented to the returned members of the first contingent, would also be presented to the six non-commissioned officers and men of the second contingent (applause). ……
