The committee who have in hand the arrangements for the “social” to returned Sydenham troopers, are meeting with much support, and there is every promise of the gathering being, highly successful. There has been such a demand for tickets that no more will be sold after today, as already more have been disposed of than there is room in the hall for, and a tent for refreshments has had to be provided. An excellent programme has been arranged, and subscriptions for the medals to be presented to, the six troopers are coming in well. The “social” is to be held at the Druids’ Hall, Sydenham, on August 8.

THE SYDENHAM TROOPERS.

A "welcome home social" was tendered to a number of Sydenham troopers who have recently returned from Souta Africa, in the Druids' Hall, Sydenham, last evening, when there was a very large gathering. The Mayor of Sydenham (Mr B.P. Manhire) presided. The troopers in whose honour the "social" was given were T. HILL, Trumpet-Major CHEGWIN, Corporal J.W. JONES, Bombardier J. WHITELAW and Troopers G. WILLIAMS, H. WALLS and J. CARLYLE. An excellent programme was submitted, and the Mayor, after a short address referring to the service rendered to the nation by New Zealanders, and welcoming the troopers home again, presented each with a handsome gold medal suitably inscribed. The hall was nicely decorated with flags and banners, and in a large marquee adjoining the hall, supper was laid. After supper dancing was commenced.
