On the obverse side of the medal is a cross gun and shield, the latter being inscribed: — "Corporal Harold Hartley, a welcome home from his Rockhampton shopmates, Q.C.R." On the reverse side is inscribed: "In remembrance of the Third Queensland contingent in South Africa, 1900-1.  Mafeking, Elands River, Rhenoster Kop, Pietersburg". The chair was occupied by Mr C.
