Silver medal, to:

1st Volunteer Active Service Company, 2nd Bn. South Wales Borderers ["C" Company, 5th V.B.S.W.B.] –
6721 Private W.H. GITTINS

Obverse: "FROM / Mrs Morgan /LLANGOLLEN".

Reverse: "TO / W.H. Gittins / NEWTOWN / A VOLUNTEER / TO / SOUTH AFRICA / 1900-1".

A gift from Mrs Morgan, Llangollen.

This is a different medal to those presented by the employees of Messrs Pryce-Jones Ltd. The fact that Gittins was not employed at Messrs Pryce-Jones Ltd meant that he was the only member of the Newtown contingent not to receive a medal at the presentation ceremony on 06/07/1901. Mrs Morgan appears to have rectified this, just as Colonel Pryce-Jones had done in April 1900, when silver flasks were presented to the contingent on departure.

Gittins also received a watch from Welshpool.
