ST ANDREW’S LODGE, A.F. AND A.M.

W. Bro. A.E. Sennat, on behalf of the lodge, presented Bro. John Wolfe SMITH, who went to South Africa with the second contingent, with a handsome gold locket, as a token of the esteem in which he was held by the brethren.

The locket was inscribed: “Presented to John W. Smith by the brethren of St Andrew’s Lodge, No. 53, for his services to the Empire in South Africa. Montreal, March 12th, 1901”. W. Bro. Sennat, in making the presentation, said that it would have been done long before had it not been for the absence of Bro. SMITH from the city, and assured him that his loyalty to one of the greatest women who ever lived was fully appreciated by the members of St Andrew’s. Bro. SMITH feelingly acknowledged the handsome gift. Bro. James YOUNG, of Elgin Lodge, who also went to South Africa with the first contingent, and who has four clasps on his medal, was also asked to add a few words.
