Gold Medal for a Bugler.

The regular parade of the Townsville Mounted Infantry was rendered unusually interesting last night by a pleasant little function in which Bugler DIMMOCK was the central figure (says the Townsville Evening Star of April 24). DIMMOCK was one of the Mackay volunteers of the first Queensland contingent, and after going through the more trying portion of the South African campaign, he returned with his comrades some time ago. Since then he has been transferred from Sugaropolis to Townsville, and is now following his profession as an assistant teacher at the West End State school. The citizens of Mackay had decided on recognising the loyalty of their youths by presenting each with a gold medal, but before the official ceremony took place young DIMMOCK had come on to Townsville. The medal was, however, sent on to Major Hooper for presentation; but that officer being unable to perform the pleasant function, relegated it to Captain Forsyth, adjutant of the Queensland Mounted Infantry. In the presence of the Mounted Infantry Corps, that officer in a brief, complimentary speech, presented Bugler DIMMOCK with his medal, which on its obverse side bore the head of a Boer, and on the reverso the inscription, "Presented to Bugler Dimmock by the people of Mackay". Three cheers were given for the recipient, who in a few words returned thanks to Captain Forsyth for his kindly remarks, and also to Major Hodges and the people of Mackay for their generosity.
