PRESENTATION TO AN OFFICIAL.

On Tuesday night Mr A. FORBES, district surveyor, was waited upon by Messrs Wellington, Allan, and Finn, as representing the roadmen in the employment of the Linlithgow District Committee, for the purpose of presenting him with a testimonial as a mark of respect on his return from South Africa. The testimonial took the form of a handsome gold albert and appendage and a walking stick, and the deputies expressed the hope that Mr FORBES would be long spared to use them. Mr FORBES expressed his gratification at being made the recipient of such a handsome present, and said that apart from his having returned from South Africa, such a presentation would not have been made had there not existed between them as master and men the best of good feeling. He trusted that they would always get on in the future as well as they had done in the past, and that, if every man dis his duty, he was sure nothing but harmony would prevail. As our readers know, Mr FORBES, who has assumed the command of A (Linlithgow) Company, 8th V.B.R.S., was one of the officers attached to the Third Active Service Company of the Royal Scots who volunteered for service in South Africa.
