HARTLEPOOL MAN FOR THE FRONT.

The joiners employed by Messrs Furness, Withy, and Co., Hartlepool, assembled at the St Hilda Hotel, Hartlepool, on Saturday evening, to do honour to Mr R. McLEAN, who has volunteered for the front, having joined the Durham company of the Northumberland Fusiliers. Mr J. Sparks occupied the chair, and during the evening, presented Mr McLEAN with a flask, a pipe, pouch, cigars, and tobacco, and a silver medal. He observed that the friends of Mr McLEAN were very proud of his spirit in volunteering to serve his King and country in South Africa, and they wished him success, and hoped he would return again and have a successful career. Mr McLEAN suitably responded, and the remainder of the evening was spent in harmony, those contributing including Messrs Brack Brothers, Scott, Wood, jun., Gray, Alliston, Addison, Watt, Ibbotson, Lawton, and the Almond family. Messrs Brack, Almond and Vorman had charge of the piano.
