PRESENTATION TO A RETURNED VOLUNTEER.

An interesting ceremony took place last evening in the barracks at Dalkeith, the occasion being the recognition of the services rendered by Private Charles CHALMERS, Dalkeith, who a year ago went out to South Africa as a member of the Royal Scots Service Company. Provost Lucas congratulated Private CHALMERS on his safe return, and presented him with a silver watch bearing a suitable inscription, and a gold appendage, on behalf of the inhabitants. Private CHALMERS suitably acknowledged the gift.
