WoodOswald GillespieColonelHe died of internal inflammation at Kroonstad, January 3rd, 1902. He was born in November 1851, and educated at Edinburgh Academy. He entered the Army Medical Staff in September 1873, being promoted surgeon Major March 1886, Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel March 1894, Brigade Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel April 1897, and Colonel (South Africa) October 1899. He served in the Egyptian War of 1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir, receiving the medal with clasp and the Khedive's star. In the operations on the Nile of 1889, he was senior medical officer to the British troops. At the beginning of the South African War he was in charge of a general hospital, and afterwards was Principal Medical Officer at Kroonstad, being mentioned in despatches, LG, April 16th, 1901, and was awarded the CB November 29th, 1900.
