MajorThomas CharlesCaptainMAJOR, THOMAS CHARLES, Captain, was born 11 December 1869. Rejoined the New Zealand Military Forces, and served in South Africa, 1899-1901; was mentioned in Despatches [London Gazette, 16 April 1901]; received the Queen's Medal with four clasps, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 19 April 1901]: "Thomas Charles Major, Captain, New Zealand Mounted Rifles. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa". He subsequently attained the rank of Colonel.
