LawrenceVincentLeaderPage 80. Born 10th September, 1873, Madras, India. Educated: Madras. Arrived in South Africa in the 1890s. Was Confidential Clerk of Mr. Gandhi for several years and served as an Ambulance Corps man during hostilities. Presented with the QSA for meritorious services. In other activities, was President of D. and D. Indian Educational Adv. Committee; the Natal Indian Football Association; Durban and District Cricket Union; the Sports Association and was Secretary, Treasurer and Member of almost every local body over a period of over a quarter of a century. He was at one time Chairman of the S.A.I.C. and a Vice-President of the Natal body for many years, he was also a F/Member of the Durban Indian Child Welfare Society and President of the Indian Social Service Committee. He was appointed a Commissioner of Oaths in 1937. A recipient of the King George VI Coronation Medal he also served the first Indian member of the King Edward VIII Hospital Adv. Board. He was the first Hon. Secretary of the M. K. Gandhi Library and Parsee Rustomjee Hall. Had 10 children. Lived in Durban.
