Hello,

I thought that you might be interested in seeing a gold example of this badge, which was given to VIP's and other senior people.

Best regards,

Hi

These "gold versions" do surprise me, as it fails the egalitarian principles that was so important to us in the colonies. Do you have one and further information around these "special" pins (gold plated, solid 9 or 18) and more importantly a list of recipients?

I was of the belief Winston Churchill was one of the VIP recipients.

Cheers Stephen

Gents,

These gold badges of the South African War Veterans Association were given to life members. With a bit of luck there will be a number on the reverse?

Cheers
Phil

This badge is a much later version as it has the "paint" finish normally associated with items from the 1970's. Enamel gives a much more durable finish and even looks more attractive but is VERY time-consuming! Although not maker marked, it will be from the Amor die if you examine the detail in the crown, etc.
