Positive proof, if ever proof were needed, that the subaltern and company commmander led from the front! :)

David,

Many thanks for posting these. The following had also been held in the officer's camp but had left before June 1900 for various reasons:

Major W. Adye, Staff - captured Nicholson's Nek 30.10.1899 - released under Red Cross 5.3.1900
Captain A.L. Haldane, Gordon Highlanders - captured Blaukrantz 15.11.1899 - escaped 16.3.1900
W.S. Churchill, War Correspondent - captured Blaukrantz 15.11.1899 - escaped 13.12.1900
Sgt Major Brockie, Imperial Light Horse - captured Bulwana Kop 15.11.1899 - escaped 16.3.1900
Resident Magistrate C. Hignett - captured Nqutu 9.2.1900 - released 24.3.1900

These taken from the handwritten nominal roll contained in 'The Gram' by the Earl of Rosslyn.

Surprisingly absent from Rosslyn's list and the published casualty lists is Lieutenant F.N. Le Mesurier, Royal Dublin Fusiliers who escaped with Haldane and Brockie.

Best wishes,

Justin
