It was a very helpful Librarian at Edinburgh's Royal College of Surgeons who alerted me to Hall's Scopwick link. It is thanks to him that I now know a fair amount about Hall, his family and early life, and his medical school training. His abruptly terminated short stay in Natal is also well documented, so he has turned out to be a good research subject. There are still some gaps to fill .........
