He was Frans Willem Andries van Zyl, I don't know which camp in Bermuda either.

The information I have are “Frans Willem Andries van Zyl,sluit aan 1899 by Staatsartillerie,magsnommer 778,ingedeel by 3de Battery,ontvang ABO medalje”

“3de Battery was onder bevel van Kaptein JF Wolmarans en is Natal toe.Luitenant Mike du Toit wat by Talana gewond is was een van twee luitenante van die battery.”

This card was painted in Tin Town Camp by 23-year-old Samuel Rosslee [Rosslyn] Allpass, captured in Johannesburg on 6 April 1901. The date and place of capture, along with the quintessentially English/Scottish name raises all sorts of questions ….. He later served as a captain in the Machine Gun Corps, dying of wounds in Basra, Iraq, on 25 Jan 1917.

With postmark "P.O. FOR P.O.W. / TIN TOWN / 15 OC 01" (though the lack of an address indicates that it wasn't actually posted).

Born 1877, George, Cape Colony. Died of wounds, 25 Jan 1917, Al Basrah, Basra, Iraq (Temp. Captain, Machine Gun Corps).
