Hi Stokes
With Volunteers (Pete) help with the full name and numbers of your Grandfather
Please find a little more information pertaining to your relative Horace Rush.

Horace Rush Private RAMC 7738 Anglo Boer War
Corporal H Rush 52481 WW1 RAMC

Born Circca 1871 /72 at Huntingfield Suffolk.
Father Robert & Mother Margaret of Colemans Farm.
Horace Rush 7738 enlisted at Woolwich aged 15 years and 2 months
For the Medical Staff Corps 26th April 1887. At 15 years of age
he was 5 foot 1 inch tall , 6 stone 5 pounds with a fresh freckled complexion. Hair and eyes were brown and he stated his religious denomination was C of E. His brother Frank was already serving in the medical staff Corps when Horace joined up.
He spent 2 years and 172 days in South Africa, with a total of nearly 14 years serving in the RAMC until 1901, he was still a reservist until 1904.

The 1911 census has Horace as the head of the household along with his brother, Edwin, Fred and his sisters Gertrude, Flora and his niece Norah. Their trade were dairy farmers and were living at Malacca Northville Drive South -End on Sea. This was his address used when he rejoined the RAMC at Southampton on 4th February 1915. He was in his 40s then and according to his medical record had grown a few inches to 5 foot 5 since he last served.

He made Corporal  in 1916 and was awarded the 1914/1915 Star,  Victory Medal and British War Medal. His regimental number was 52481. One of his WW1 medal rolls states he served in Egypt. I haven't delved too deep into his life after WW1. Not sure if he married or had  children. However,  his trade of working in agriculture remained prominent through his life after his time in the RAMC. As it is mentioned on his death certificate which occurred in 1951 where he lived at 126 Eastwood Road Rayleigh Essex. He was aged 80 when he died of a heart condition.
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave
