Saxon,

Here's a slightly cleaned up version of your image.

Best wishes

Ditto David......

Then there are us Ludites who remember what a pen with a removable nib and ink bottle look like.....

My kids used to say that I took my notes at school with a chisel and hammer on stone.....

But all kidding aside "Thanks for your technical skills...."

Hello

My great-grandfather was apparently a medic of the North Free State Ambulance. He was called Paul Georg Schoeler. I managed to get a picture from a BBC website which contains a picture of 5 medical persons who were at Spioenkop. I THINK the back, right-hand person might be my relative. I would also like to confirm that the central front figure is Dr Dyer, who was commended for his work this during this battle.

I would appreciate any information.

Juniarust,
the best reference book to read about the unit your relative was in would be Healers, Helpers and Hospitals by J.C.De Villiers. It is a 2-volume book, quite expensive, but a good reference library should get it for you. More details:
Title Healers, Helpers and Hospitals
Author Jacquez Charl De Villiers
Edition illustrated
Publisher Protea Book House, 2008
ISBN 186919277X, 9781869192778

If you have no luck, I shall be back from travelling in about 2 weeks and if you send me a message I shall scan the relevant pages for you.

Rob
