Hi, I was very much surprised whilst researching my family history to discover I had a great uncle who served as a civil conductor with the Army Service Corps. His name was Carl Claudius Clarke and died at Mafeking 24 September 1901. He was with 28B company I think. I know very little about the 1899-1902 war and intend to find out more. I would appreciate any information on my long lost relative and maybe find out where he is buried. I have noticed a lot of men died from disease and possibly this was his fate. As I say any information on him would be greatly received.
Thank You.

The SAFF casualty list shows him as "Died of Disease"; enteric disease was the scourge of the army then and before. The other details in SAFF agree with what you already have.

Thanks Linney for your reply. Can you help me with any other information on where he was possible buried and what was a conductor in the army service corps. Was he in the army or was he a civilian working for the army. Where could I obtain his record details if he had any?I would appreciate any help.

And the learned Justin supplied more than I could! A Conductor (civilian or otherwise) had a very important role with the army in ABW; moving supplies - bulk and otherwise - back and forwards (wagons and livestock) and associated tasks. Not a glamorous occupation; just a vital one!

Thanks Justin and Linney. I appreciate the information and help.
I managed to get a copy of my grandfathers WW1 records which had survived the blitz. Is there anywhere I can get a copy of my great uncle's service records if there are any.
